APIL's Alternative Spring Break program (affectionately referred to as "ASB") is a
Pro Bono Opportunity that should not be missed. Interested students can apply now
First and foremost, ASB is a pro-bono undertaking. It is a chance for law students to provide much needed aid in communities requiring
legal assistance. While on the trip, students perform hands on work for supervising attorneys to help clients that cannot otherwise
obtain counsel, but are in dire need of relief. These attorneys are often working on multiple cases simultaneously, with limited resoures,
and no expectation of compensation of their time. Efforts by
only law students
can sometimes make a very big difference.
ASB is also a great opportunity for students to gain practical experience that can be referenced at interviews and looks
great on a résumé. Attendees can expect to spend about 35 hours in the office or accompanying a supervising attorney
in legal proceedings. Assignments will include researching, writing memos, and drafting court documents such as motions or briefs.
1L's, as well as upperclassmen, are encouraged to apply, as assignments will require all levels of legal experience.
Last year's ASB program in New Orleans was a huge success. Fundraising efforts were put towards airfare and hotel costs for
over 30 Rutgers Law Students to aid in the New Orleans legal effort. As the program continues to gain recognition and approval by
Rutgers faculty, supporters, and in the media, APIL hopes this year will be even better in Dade County.
All students are welcome to attend our information session on Wednesday, September 7th at 1:30pm in room 207.
Any other questions or concerns can be directed to ASB Chairs Amanda Dalton - Amanda.dalton4@gmail.com or

applying can be found here.
